A partially miscible binary liquid mixture, composed of and B particles, is considered theoretically under conditions for which a stable A-rich phase in thermal equilibrium with the vapor phase. Liquid-vapor phase behavior of a symmetrical binary fluid mixture
Using Monte Carlo simulation and mean-field calculations, we study the liquid-vapor phase diagram of a square-well binary fluid mixture as a function of a parameter d measuring the relative strength of interactions between particles of dissimilar and similar species. The results reveal a rich variety of liquid-vapor coexistence behaviors as d is tuned. Specifically, we uncover critical end poin...
متن کاملCritical Wetting of a Liquid/Vapor Interface by Octane
The wetting of the planar interface between air saturated with octane vapor and an aqueous solution by octane is investigated by ellipsometry and interfacial tension measurements. The interfacial interactions are varied through the concentration of the uncharged solute (glucose). We observe abrupt and continuous increases of the octane coverage with growing solute concentration. This we attribu...
متن کاملResistances for heat and mass transfer through a liquid-vapor interface in a binary mixture.
In this paper we calculate the interfacial resistances to heat and mass transfer through a liquid-vapor interface in a binary mixture. We use two methods, the direct calculation from the actual nonequilibrium solution and integral relations, derived earlier. We verify, that integral relations, being a relatively faster and cheaper method, indeed gives the same results as the direct processing o...
متن کاملLiquid-crystalline phase behavior of a colloidal rod-plate mixture.
The phase behavior of rod-plate mixtures was investigated using model systems containing unambiguously rod- and plate-shaped colloids. We find that the theoretically disputed biaxial nematic phase is unstable with respect to demixing into an isotropic and two uniaxial nematic phases. The phase behavior at very high densities is exceptionally rich and includes the coexistence of up to four diffe...
متن کاملWetting in a colloidal liquid-gas system.
We present first observations of wetting phenomena in depletion interaction driven, phase separated colloidal dispersions (coated silica-cyclohexane-polydimethylsiloxane). The contact angle of the colloidal liquid-gas interface at a solid substrate (coated glass) was determined for a series of compositions. Upon approach to the critical point, a transition occurs from partial to complete wetting.
